Coimbatore: An elderly woman, who was undergoing treatment after being injured in an elephant attack in Valparai, passed away on Monday. The deceased Annalakshmi (67) was a worker at the ETR estate.

The incident occurred at the ETR Estate under the Manambolly Forest Reserve. The elephant entered the estate which includes 12 houses during the night. Annalakshmi stepped out of her house after hearing noises, at which point the elephant struck her down with its trunk.

Neighbours in nearby houses woke up and raised an alarm, forcing the elephant to retreat. Annalakshmi was initially taken to Valparai Government Hospital and later shifted to a private hospital in Coimbatore as her condition worsened, but she succumbed to her injuries.
