Kerala rain: Orange alert for 4 districts today, heavy showers likely till June 28

Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for four districts—Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Wayanad—on Wednesday in view of intense rainfall.

A yellow alert has also been issued for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod.

On Thursday, the orange alert will continue in Idukki, Malappuram, and Wayanad, while a yellow alert will be in place for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod.

For Friday, a yellow alert has been issued for Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod. The same alert will remain for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod on Saturday.

The IMD has warned of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (40–50 kmph) at isolated places across Kerala today. Additionally, strong surface winds are expected to persist between June 26 and 28.

Heavy rainfall, ranging from 7 to 11 cm in 24 hours, is likely to occur at isolated places across the state till Saturday, the weather agency said.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and follow safety protocols, especially in areas vulnerable to flooding and landslides.
