Shailaja, the mother of Vipanchika (32), who was found hanging in her flat in Sharjah following alleged domestic abuse, arrived in Sharjah on Tuesday morning. She was accompanied by a relative and reached Sharjah to repatriate the mortal remains of her daughter and one-and-a-half-year-old granddaughter, Vaibhavi, to their hometown in Kollam. Vipanchika’s brother, Vinod, is expected to reach Sharjah later on Tuesday from Canada.
The family is considering lodging a complaint with the Sharjah Police against Vipanchika’s husband, Nidheesh. They also plan to raise the matter with officials at the Indian Consulate.
Meanwhile, in Kerala, the Kundara Police have registered a case based on a complaint lodged by Shailaja. Nidheesh, his sister, Neethu Beni and their father have been charged with Section 85 (cruelty by husband or his relatives) and Section 108 (abetment to suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.
Vipanchika's suicide note, which appeared on her Facebook profile, details serious allegations of physical and emotional abuse. She said that Nidheesh’s family used to insult her by saying that the wedding was not conducted on a grand scale, that she did not have a house or money, and that she lived by begging.
