Kollam: Days after the death of Kollam native Vipanchika in Sharjah, another woman from Kollam has died by suicide in the same UAE emirate, allegedly due to domestic violence. The deceased is Athulya Satheesh (30), a native of Kozhivila in Kollam. Athulya was found hanging in her flat in Rolla, Sharjah, on Friday. She is believed to have taken the extreme step on her birthday, allegedly after enduring 12 years of physical and mental abuse from her husband.
Her family filed a complaint with the Kollam Thekkumbhagam police, alleging that she took her own life after enduring domestic violence at the hands of her husband, Satheesh Sankar. It is alleged that Satheesh used to physically assault Athulya after consuming alcohol. She had reportedly lodged a complaint with the Sharjah police regarding the abuse.
According to Manorama News, Athulya’s family has submitted strong evidence, including video footage, to support their allegations against Satheesh. They further claimed that she faced dowry harassment within six months of her marriage. Athulya and Satheesh entered wedlock in 2013.
Athulya’s only daughter, Aaradhika (10), is currently with her grandparents, Rajasekharan Pillai and Thulasi Bhai, in Kollam. Her sister, Akhila Gokul, resides near Athulya’s flat in Sharjah. Manorama News also reported that Athulya had shared photos and videos of the physical assaults with her sister.
Police have started a probe into the family's complaint. In the visuals shared by the family, Satheesh was seen attempting to attack Athulya with a chair. Photos of bruises sustained by Athulya was also submitted as an evidence.
Talking to Manorama News, Athulya's relative Rahul said that she was struggling a lot with domestic abuse in her unhappy marriage. He added that both families had held talks after Athulya complained about domestic abuse in the early days of her marriage.
" Her husband is a drunkard. He suspected her of infidelity and used to assault her physically. The physical and mental torture started within six months after the marriage," he added.
This news emerged just days after the tragic deaths of Kollam native Vipanchika and her one-year-old daughter, Vaibhavi, who were found hanging in Sharjah on July 8. Following a complaint from Vipanchika’s family, Kundara police booked her husband and his family members in connection with the case.
