It was in February this year that two persons, identified as Shaji and Mominul Malitha, were caught from the New Bus Stand premises with 28.766 kilograms of ganja. The police said all four arrested were part of the same network.

Shahid Alam Biswas was arrested while bringing ganja to Kochi from Odisha by bus. He was planning to hand it over to Anil. Alam Biswas, a native of Bengal, was born in Angamaly. Fluent in Malayalam, he works as an autorickshaw driver in Kochi as part of establishing links with narcotic dealers and used this cover to sell ganja. He became acquainted with Anil through ganja sales. The duo were taken into custody while preparing a deal using this contraband.

The two had been hiding by switching off their mobile phones, fearing police investigation into the Kozhikode ganja seizure. Shahid Alam Biswas was already out on bail in connection with the seizure of 14.355 kilograms of ganja from a bus at Kazhchaparambu near Palakkad last year.
