Kannur: In a shocking incident, a woman died after jumping into a river with her three-year-old son at Chembalikundu here on Sunday. The deceased is MV Reema (30), a native of Vayalapra.

Fire Force personnel have been searching for the child, who is suspected to have been swept away by the current. Heavy rain in the area and strong river currents have been affecting the search operations. A scuba team has also joined the mission.

Manorama News reported that Reema reached the Chembalikundu bridge with her son on a two-wheeler and jumped into the river around 12.45 am.

A family dispute with her husband, from whom she has been separated for the last three years, is suspected to be the reason behind her taking such an extreme step, an officer of Payangadi police station said. "The matter needs to be investigated. The inquest of the woman is over," the officer said.
