Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has revised its rain forecast for Kerala on Monday. Earlier, a yellow alert was issued for nine districts in the state, as moderate rainfall was expected. However, the IMD later upgraded the alert to orange for three districts — Idukki, Kannur, and Kasaragod — and placed all other districts under a yellow alert.
A yellow alert indicates heavy rainfall ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm within 24 hours, while an orange alert signifies very heavy rainfall, exceeding 115.6 mm and up to 204.4 mm within the same period. The IMD has urged people to exercise extreme caution while travelling, as visibility may be reduced due to intense rainfall.

INCOIS sounds high wave alert
The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has sounded a high wave alert along the coasts of Kerala on July 21. As per the alert, tidal waves are likely to rise to a height of 3.2 metres in Kappil to Pozhiyoor in Thiruvananthapuram, Alappad to Edava in Kollam, Chellanam to Azheekal in Alappuzha and Kunjathur to Kottakunnu coasts in Kannur and Kasaragod districts till 11.30 pm on Monday.
Fisherfolk are restricted from venturing into the sea off Kerala coasts till July 22 due to the adverse weather conditions. INCOIS has issued a public advisory urging people to exercise extreme caution during tidal wave attacks. Coastal residents are advised to relocate to safe areas as directed by local authorities. Beach-based tourism activities are also restricted until INCOIS withdraws the warning.
