Mananthavady: Two youth have been arrested by the police for vandalising a shop allegedly out of spite for demanding the money for a product that was given on credit. Mananthavady police nabbed R Shijad (35), a native of Varadimoola and K Suneer (36) for causing damage to the shop.

Shijad and Suneer assaulted K Rafeeq, the owner of Lala Mini Super Market at Chettapalam on July 17. They also vandalised the shop, causing severe monetary loss to the owner. Besides, the accused threatened the shop owner’s sister, who came to the shop knowing about the incident. The police said that the accused assaulted Rafeeq out of spite after the latter demanded ₹1000 for the things they had purchased on credit earlier.

Suneer is a habitual offender and is an accused in many criminal cases, including theft, assault, as well as outraging the modesty of a woman. Meanwhile, Shijad has been named accused in a case registered at Thirunelli for attacking forest officials as well as a domestic violence case in Mananthavady police station.

The case was investigated by Mananthavady inspector SHO P Rafeeq and his team that comprised SI MC Pavanan, ASI Ajesh Kumar and SCPO Manu Augustine. The CCTV visuals in the shop were collected as prime evidence to identify the accused. Shop owner Rafeeq, who has been injured, is admitted to the Wayanad government medical college hospital.

The accused was nabbed by the police while the Merchants Association were planning to hold a protest march against the delay in arresting them.
