Kannur: Days after the tragic death of Reema, a native of Vayalapara in Kannur, and her three-year-old son, a suicide note written by the woman has revealed that she faced brutal domestic violence at the hands of her husband, Kamal Raj, and his mother.

Reema (30) and her son Krishiv Raj (3), also known as Kannan, jumped into the river from the Chembalikundu bridge in the early hours of July 20.  Though Reema was found dead in the river on the same day, the child's body was recovered on July 23.

In the suicide note, written on the back of an examination hall ticket, Reema claimed that her husband had thrown her and their son out of the house at his mother’s insistence. She made serious allegations against both her husband and mother-in-law.

“My mother-in-law never allowed me to live peacefully. My husband, Kamal Raj, kicked me and my child out of the house under her influence. She always wanted to keep her son with her. Girls like me won’t get justice in this society. The law will always protect the culprits, even if we die or get murdered,” Reema wrote.

She added that her husband had demanded she leave their son with him.

“My husband is asking me to leave our son with him, only for the sake of his mother. I know he doesn’t love him. They asked me to die. My mother-in-law constantly scolded me and instigated fights between me and my husband,” she added.

Following her death, police recovered a voice note in which Reema could be heard accusing her husband and mother-in-law of driving her to suicide. Reema had been living in her parental home after separating from her husband. She married Kamal Raj in March 2015.

According to her father, Kunnappada Mohanan, Reema had previously filed a complaint with the Kannappuram police, accusing her husband and mother-in-law of domestic harassment. He added that she took the extreme step after Kamal Raj allegedly threatened to take the couple's only son from her on July 20.
