Kozhikode: As coconut prices continue to soar, a dispute over harvested coconuts turned violent in Koodaranhi on Friday afternoon, leaving five members of a family injured in a stabbing incident. Manimal Johny MC (60), a resident of Kalppini in Koombara Bazar, was allegedly attacked by his nephew, Jobish, during an altercation over coconuts from a plot owned by Philomina—Johny's sister and Jobish’s unmarried aunt, who lives with him. Johny’s wife Marry, daughter Jannet, and Philomina were also injured while trying to intervene. Jobish sustained a stab wound during the scuffle.

According to the police FIR, Jobish attacked Johny when he came to Philomina’s house to collect coconuts from her property. Johny was reportedly hacked on the head and stabbed in the neck and abdomen. The others were injured while attempting to stop the attack.

All the injured were rushed to KMCT Hospital in Mukkom. Four of them were later shifted to another hospital in Kozhikode city for plastic surgery, due to the severity of their wounds.

"Everyone had deep wounds and was bleeding heavily when they arrived. Most injuries were to the head and neck. Johny and his family members required plastic surgery. Jobish also had a deep stab on his hand," a hospital representative told Onmanorama.
