Malappuram: Perinthalmanna police have arrested six individuals, including a couple, in connection with the alleged gang rape of a woman. The accused are: Ramachandran (63) of Kulirmunda, Mannarkkad; Sanoop (36) of Koorayi, Pallikkal Bazaar; his wife Jaseela (27) of Thoran House, Payyanad; Raihan (45) of Athanparambil, Tirur; Sulaiman (47) of Mundukkattil, Koppam; and Zainul Abideen (41) of Purayath, Elamkulam.

According to police, the first accused, Ramachandran, along with Jaseela and Sanoop, had allegedly conspired in advance and lured the victim with a false promise of helping secure bail for her husband, who is currently in jail on fraud charges. On July 27, they brought her to the New Plaza Residency Lodge in Perinthalmanna, which is run by Ramachandran. There, Ramachandran, along with Raihan, Sulaiman, and Zainul Abideen, allegedly sexually assaulted the woman.

It is also reported that Ramachandran received money from the other accused, and the amount was later shared among Ramachandran, Jaseela, and Sanoop.

The woman reportedly attempted to escape from the lodge but was threatened and further assaulted. The complainant had known the couple for the past five years. Police said Sanoop and Jaseela allegedly took advantage of this relationship and used the pretext of helping her with her husband’s bail to trap her.
