Kozhikode: PK Bujair, brother of Youth League leader PK Firoz, was arrested on Sunday for allegedly assaulting a police officer on duty. The 35-year-old, a resident of Pathimangalam in Kozhikode, reportedly attacked the officer near Choolaamvazhal bus stop after the police reached there for an inspection based on a tip-off regarding a possible drug deal.
A suo motu case has been registered against Bujair under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 132 (assault on a public servant while performing duty) and 121(1) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to deter a public servant from duty).
A police official told Onmanorama that no drug charges have been filed against Bujair at this stage. He was produced before a local court after his arrest was recorded.
According to a complaint filed by Nithin A, Sub-Inspector at Kunnamangalam police station, the incident occurred on Saturday evening when officers attempted to inspect Bujair and his vehicle. When a police officer named Ajeesh informed Bujair about the inspection, he allegedly slapped the officer and pulled him by the chest to obstruct the inspection. As the situation escalated, the SI and other officers waiting nearby rushed to the spot and overpowered Bujair.

The incident has triggered a political row, with Bineesh Kodiyeri, son of late CPM leader Bineesh Kodiyeri, demanding the resignation of PK Firoz from his post as Youth League state general secretary.
Addressing the media in Thiruvananthapuram, he demanded a detailed probe into the possible involvement of PK Firoz in the case and challenged the Youth League leader to adopt the same stance he had taken in the narcotics case against him. In 2020, Firoz had called for an investigation into Bineesh's alleged links to the Bengaluru drug racket after Kochi police arrested Anoop Mohammed with over 250 MDMA pills. Following this, the Enforcement Directorate arrested Bineesh on October 29, 2020. He was later granted bail by the Karnataka High Court in October 2021.
