Vadakara: The three-day-long strike that had disrupted normal life across various parts of the taluk has been called off following a conciliatory meeting convened by District Police Chief K E Baiju with representatives from multiple trade unions.
Though bus services started today morning, DYFI workers blocked some buses in Vadakara and Thalassery in retaliation against the strike calls. However, the services resumed after police intervention.
Strict action will be taken against individuals who issue strike calls via WhatsApp without the knowledge or consent of recognized unions.
Earlier at Chokli, the bus strike was withdrawn after three individuals were arrested in connection with the assault on a bus conductor. The Chokli Police had also given an assurance that the remaining accused would be apprehended soon. The strike in Vadakara was called off in a similar manner.
The reconciliation meeting on Saturday saw the participation of ASP A P Chandran, RTO P Rajesh, Joint RTO P Sajeesh and representatives from various trade unions, including M Balakrishnan, E Pradeep Kumar, Adv E Narayanan Nair, Vinod Cheriyath, Madappally Mohanan, K Prakashan, Babu Naripatta, K Dileepan, Bus Operators Secretary A P Haridasan, President Salva Kunjammad, Ushas Gopalan, E Biju Kumar and K Vijayan.
Meanwhile, INTUC and RMP leaders held discussions with MP Shafi Parambil, requesting him to contact the Kannur District Police Chief to ensure police protection for all bus employees.
