Kollam: A 78-year-old woman, who is a retired teacher, was severely beaten by her neighbour in Kottarakara, Kollam. The victim, Sarasamma, has been admitted to the hospital with serious injuries, while the accused, Sasidharan, was arrested by the police.

The incident happened on Monday at 2.15 pm. Sarasamma and Sasidharan had a long-standing dispute over the alleged encroachment of her property by the accused, who was reportedly using it as a pathway. The conflict escalated when Sarasamma questioned Sasidharan for using her land.

Following this, Sasidharan beat her up. He grabbed her walking stick during the altercation and used it to hit her head, and while blocking it, she suffered injury to her hand. He also hit her on the head and neck and tore her clothes, according to the FIR.

Hearing her scream, neighbours rushed to the spot and took her to the hospital. A complaint was also filed with the Kottarakara Police, following which Sasidharan was taken into custody. Procedures to remand him are currently underway, a police officer said.

The accused has been slapped with relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including attempted murder.
