Street dog vaccination is underway in Ambalappara, Palakkad, to combat rabies and reduce stray dog attacks.

Ambalappara: A vaccination campaign for street dogs has been launched by Ambalappura panchayat and the veterinary hospital in Palakkad district. The vaccine is being administered to around 350 strays identified during a survey utilising ₹90,000 from the panchayat fund.

Members of the vaccination team and a five-member Animal Rescue Force are involved in the initiative. They reach all parts of the panchayat to capture street dogs and administer the vaccine.

Street dogs had killed a calf at Cherumundassery on July 18 and attacked a goat the previous day. The dog that bit the goat was later found to be rabid. The campaign was launched following these developments. Ambalappara panchayat president P Vijayalakshmi inaugurated the programme.

The menace of stray dogs is severe in Ambalappara town and surrounding areas.
