Thrissur: Puthukad police on Tuesday night arrested an autorickshaw driver for allegedly assaulting a police officer at the Paliyekkara toll plaza in Thalavanikkara. The accused has been identified as Revath Babu (28), a native of Varandarappilly.

Revath reportedly lifted a barricade at the toll plaza and tried to force vehicles through without paying the toll. He also attempted to remove keys from parked vehicles nearby, in protest against the ongoing issues at the Paliyekkara toll booth.

Upon being alerted, the highway police reached the spot. While trying to restrain him, Revath allegedly struck officer Vishnu on the forehead, causing an injury. He was booked for creating a public nuisance in an inebriated state and obstructing a public servant on duty.
