Land donated by private individuals to build bypass at Mukkam; road to be built as part of beautification project

Mukkam: A new bypass has been approved in Mukkam as a solution to the severe traffic blockades in the city. The bypass would be built from near Mukkamkadavu bridge to new bus stand after private individuals have expressed their willingness to donate land. This will hopefully solve the severe traffic congestion at Alinchuvadu Orphanage Mukkam Kadavu road. 

The proposed bypass will have at least seven metres width. Meanwhile, the road would be built as part of the second phase of beautification of Mukkam. Rs 5 crore was allotted for the beautification project. 

Profile Group, Vayalil family and Mamboyil family have agreed to hand over their land for free to build the bypass. The road would be completely paved with interlocking bricks as part of the beautification process. When the new bypass is opened, vehicles could enter the new bus stand, old bus stand and also Areekode road in the state highway without entering the Orphanage Road. Meanwhile, the land owners who are donating the land urged the authorities to use the road as a two-way path and not a one way as proposed. 

The officials from municipality and public works department as well as the land owners measured the land and installed stumps. Orphanage Road, new bus stand, Vayalil Mammad Haji Road and Market Road would also be revamped in the second phase of beautification. 

The land was measured by a team of officials led by municipal chairman PT Babu, permanent committee chairperson Prajitha Pradeep, public works department overseer Biju as well as Profile Group managing partner PM Habeeb and Mamboyil Narayanan. Traffic blockages have become a constant thing at Mukkam Orphanage Road in the mornings and evenings causing difficulties to the public.
