Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Monday dismissed a plea by Jolly Joseph, the prime accused in the sensational Koodathayi multiple murder case, seeking permission to inspect the alleged crime scene along with her new lawyer.

Justice VG Arun upheld a trial court order, noting that the case is in its final stages with 124 prosecution witnesses already examined. The murders, six in all, including that of her first husband Roy Thomas, were allegedly carried out using cyanide to gain control over family property.

Jolly’s counsel argued that the request was necessary after her former lawyer BA Aloor’s death, enabling the new counsel to prepare an effective defence. The prosecution countered that all relevant documents, including the scene mahazar, had been provided and witnesses cross-examined. They also noted the crime scene was Jolly’s own residence and that significant changes had occurred there since the alleged murders, the last of which took place before 2011.

The trial court had earlier rejected the inspection plea citing security and logistical concerns. Upholding that view, the High Court observed that denying the request would not infringe on Jolly’s right to a fair trial. A detailed order is awaited.
