Ernakulam: The Kerala State Human Rights Commission will conduct a detailed inquiry into a complaint that a woman contracted infections following a C-section surgery at the Government Taluk Hospital, Angamaly. The complaint, filed by a native of Ayyampuzha, Amalapuram, alleges that she contracted MRSA infection and E coli bacteria during treatment at the hospital and received inadequate care. The complainant also accused hospital staff of inhumane behaviour.

The complainant had delivered a baby boy at the government hospital on November 8, 2022, after earlier treatment at a private clinic run by a gynaecologist appointed under the National Health Mission. The DMO’s report revealed that the doctor was using government facilities for private practice, prompting the hospital to terminate the doctor’s contract.

The complainant later underwent plastic surgery at a private hospital in Ernakulam, where the wound healed.

Commission Chairperson Justice Alexander Thomas has made the Principal Secretary of the Health Department, the Health Director, the District Medical Officer (DMO), and the hospital superintendent parties to the case. The matter will be heard on September 1 at 10 am at the PWD Rest House in Pathadipalam.
