Alappuzha: In a shocking incident, a man stabbed his elderly parents to death following an altercation after getting intoxicated at Chathanad here on Thursday night. The deceased are Thankaraj (70) and Aagnus (65).
North Police have taken the accused, Babu (47), a butcher into custody from a nearby bar. It is learnt that Babu fled the scene soon after committing the double murder, but police traced him after launching an extensive search.
Babu reportedly attacked his parents around 9 pm on Thursday at their residence near Poppy bridge.
Thankaraj, who witnessed the attack on his wife, attempted to flee from the house, but Babu chased him down and stabbed him to death. He was found lying in a pool of blood outside the house, Manorama News reported.
Mortal remains of the elderly couple were taken to the Government Medical College Hospital in Vandanam.
Police said Babu, who often quarreled with his parents after drinking, allegedly stabbed them when Thursday night’s argument turned violent.
As per reports, the double murder came to light after Babu phoned his sister and confessed to the crime. According to neighbours, Babu, who is a bachelor, had physically assaulted his parents multiple times in the past. It is learnt that police had warned him following complaints from neighbours, but no case was registered as his parents refused to file a formal complaint.
