Wayanad: Wayanad police on Wednesday arrested a man from Alappuzha for allegedly running a large-scale job visa scam to the Netherlands. Rajendran Pilla (51), alias Nedumpillil Biju, is a native of Charummoodu, Mavelikara. He is accused of cheating several people by promising jobs in the Netherlands with monthly salaries ranging from ₹1 lakh to ₹1.4 lakh. The police took him into custody on Tuesday.
According to police, Rajendran collected advance payments of ₹1 lakh each from many job seekers two years ago. So far, 45 complaints have been registered against him at various police stations in the district. The complainants claim he neither arranged the promised visas nor refunded their money. Cheques he issued also bounced due to lack of funds.
The accused had been absconding for several weeks before being tracked down with the help of the police Cyber Cell. The investigation was led by DySP VK Viswambaran and a team including Inspector P Rafeeq and other officers.
Rajendra was presented before the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court II and has been remanded to judicial custody.
