Karyavattom: Dr Mohanan Kunnummal, Vice-Chancellor of Kerala University, inaugurated the newly constructed entry gate at the Karyavattom campus, built at a cost of ₹1.5 crore. The inauguration followed the hoisting of the national flag at the Senate House, in the presence of the Registrar, other officials, and students.
The new gate bears a plaque honouring former President of India Dr S Radhakrishnan, who had inaugurated the Karyavattom campus in 1963. In recognition of his contribution, the gate has been named Dr S Radhakrishnan Tower.
Earlier, the original plaque unveiled by Dr Radhakrishnan on September 30, 1963, was found abandoned behind the campus engineering unit. This had triggered sharp criticism against the University for failing to preserve the legacy of the former President, and the matter even came up for discussion in the Legislative Assembly.
