Koothuparamba: The Sakhi One Stop Centre at Koothuparamba has finally shifted to its own building.
Malayala Manorama had earlier reported that the centre aimed at supporting women affected by violence in private and public spaces, within the family, community and at workplace, was still functioning out of the Koothuparamba Taluk Hospital, even two years after the construction of its dedicated facility. That report also prompted a discussion at the district administration level. On August 10, the Centre was finally relocated to its new premises.

The two-storey building, constructed at a cost of ₹45 lakh, had remained unused for two years. The Sakhi One Stop Centre allotted to the district had been functioning temporarily from the Taluk Hospital premises for long. These Centres, which act as temporary shelters for women to ensure their safety and as legal aid hubs to protect women’s rights, function under the District Collector in every district.

The Centre at Koothuparamba, which had been operating out of the hospital building, was shifted quietly to its own facility located behind the sub-treasury here, without much public notice.
