Cheruvannoor: An amenity centre for vehicle passengers is finally taking shape along the roadside near Nallalam. The Take a Break centre is being developed on a 13-cent plot adjacent to the power substation here.

The facility will feature a rest centre, cafeteria, toilet complex, seating areas, and landscaped gardens. The project, implemented under the supervision of the DTPC, is being built at a cost of ₹1 crore sanctioned by the Tourism Department. The final phase of work is now nearing completion. Constructed to modern standards, the building will also be fully accessible to persons with disabilities.

For years, the site near the substation had been neglected, overrun with shrubs and bushes, and notorious as a hub for anti-social activities. The land was also used by Nallalam police to park vehicles seized in connection with various cases. Following the intervention of Tourism Minister P A Muhammed Riyas, the vehicles were removed, paving the way for the Tourism Department to plan and develop the amenity centre.

Once operational, the centre will provide modern facilities for travellers to rest and refresh themselves during long journeys. Authorities are also planning to establish more such wayside amenity centres with upgraded features across the region.
