Cleanliness survey: Pattambi municipality wins state award for best rankings in Swachh Sarvekshan survey

Pattambi: Pattambi Municipality received the state government’s award for their excellent performance in the Swachh Sarvekshan (Urban) – 2024 survey. Swachh Sarvekshan is a nationwide sanitation survey conducted by the central government. While Pattambi municipality fared amazingly in the 2024 survey, Palakkad district too won the award after the various municipalities in the district earned excellent rankings.
Gaining three-star rating in ODF plus and GFC star rating as well as earning the certification with impressive marks made Pattambi municipality win the local self-government department’s award. Shuchitwa Mission and the local self-government department had introduced multiple projects for the municipalities to improve their district wise rankings.
Pattambi municipality successfully implemented remedial actions to rectify the flaws that were pointed out in the pre assessment survey, ahead of the field study conducted by the agencies that were appointed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Proper documents were prepared related to the waste disposal plant and waste bins and IEC boards were installed at public places, water bodies and commercial centres. Besides, more facilities have been arranged in public toilets and cleaning materials were supplied in these toilets. All these measures helped Palakkad municipality grab top spots in the rankings.
The activities done by the municipality in the last one year had helped the municipalities in the district to make a giant leap in the rankings. Door to door waste collection soared to 100 percent, basic facilities were developed at solid waste management plants, clean public places and water bodies were ensured and dumping areas were turned into beautiful gardens as part of Malinyamuktham Nava Keralam campaign. Besides, wall arts promoting cleanliness and proper waste management, various town beautification projects, collection points where building waste are collected and disposed, waste to art campaigns, activities of zero waste green protocol, RRR centre started at the Pattambi bus stand for promoting reusing of materials and the strong enforcement action adopted by the municipality against the law breakers helped the municipality improve its ranking this year.
Minister MB Rajesh presented the award to Pattambi municipal chairperson O Lakshmikutty at the event held at Tagore Hall in Vazhuthacaud, Thiruvananthapuram. Municipality permanent committee members PK Kavitha, KT Ruqiya, municipal councillors M Sreenivasan, P Shabna, secretary in charge and clean city manager C Subramanian, former municipal secretary Blessy Sebastian, public health inspectors Sangeetha Shankar Das, Sahira and other officials of Pattambi municipality attended the award ceremony.
