Thiruvananthapuram: The Aryanad police probing the suicide of Kottakkakam ward member Sreeja S (48) has named five persons, including Panchayat President and CPM leader Vijumohan, as accused. The others named are CDS Chairperson Sunitha and CPM workers Mahesh, Gigi Kesavan, and Kishore. According to the station house officer, the police have recorded the statement of Sreeja's husband, Jayakumar, and evidence collection is underway.
Sreeja died by suicide on Tuesday after consuming acid at her home in Kottakkakam. Her elder daughter, Mithuna, found her collapsed on the verandah. The ward member took the drastic step after reportedly facing public humiliation following accusations of defrauding residents of several lakhs of rupees. CPM workers had pasted posters in the area demanding her removal from the party and shaming her. On Monday, a day before her death, they had also staged a dharna against her.
