Kochi: A 34-year-old man was severely injured after falling from a swing ride at an amusement park in Tripunithura on Monday night. The park was set up on the Athachamayam ground as part of Onam celebrations.

The injured is Vishnu, a resident of Tripunithura. Bystanders rushed him to the hospital immediately after the fall.

According to eyewitnesses, the swing was being operated without proper safety measures. Following the incident, the amusement park operators fled the scene, Manorama News reported.

It is also alleged that the Tripunithura municipality failed to act despite repeated complaints about lapses in ensuring visitor safety at the park.

Municipality orders to shut amusement park
Tripunithura Municipality chairperson Rema told Manorama News that an order has been issued to shut the amusement park on the ground. She added that permission will be given to resume operations only after a detailed examination. 

Amid the criticism over alleged lapses in safety arrangements, the municipal authority confirmed that a license was issued for the operation of the park after examining all documents.
