Kasaragod: A state-of-the-art video camera control room has been set up at Manjeswaram to monitor vehicle movement along the newly completed 39-kilometre Thalappadi–Chenkala stretch of the National Highway.
The visuals from the 39 cameras installed on this stretch will be managed by the Advanced Traffic Management Control Room under the National Highway Authority of India. If an accident occurs anywhere along the route, the system will immediately trigger an alarm at the control room.
Rescue operations will be swift, with ambulances deployed as soon as accident visuals are detected.
Capturing 360-degree visuals
All the CCTV cameras are equipped to capture 360-degree visuals, covering not just the main highway but also the service roads. The system provides comprehensive details of every vehicle, including number plate, speed, seatbelt use, road crossings and parking violations etc.
Digital display boards will be set up along the stretch, giving real-time information such as distances to major towns, permitted speed limits on each lane, and live weather updates including rainfall and wind conditions. The system is also designed to share details of vehicles with the authorities concerned whenever required.
Round-the-clock monitoring
The control room will operate 24x7, with the ability to zoom in on visuals for closer monitoring. Weather alerts, passenger directions at different points and updates on vehicle speed will all be displayed on digital screens along the highway.
