Kozhikode: A glass pane at the entrance of a readymade garment shop in Kozhikode shattered due to overcrowding during a discount sale. At least eight shoppers were injured in the incident at ‘Black’, a shop near Kasthurikulam in Nadapuram, around 1 pm.

According to Nadapuram police, six of the injured sustained only minor wounds. A 16-year-old boy was treated at the Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital for hand injuries, while another seriously injured customer was taken to a private hospital in Kannur. The rest received treatment at a local hospital in Nadapuram.

The accident occurred after the shop announced an Onam offer of readymade shirts for ₹99, which drew more than 500 people into the small single-floor store. As the crowd surged forward, the glass frontage gave way, injuring those at the entrance.

Following the incident, Panchayat President V V Mohammed Ali issued a warning on social media, cautioning shop owners against announcing such sales without proper precautions. He added that the panchayat would take action against the shop management for negligence.
