Idukki: A newborn baby boy died during a home delivery conducted by his father in Anakomban in Perumkala here on Monday. The baby was the son of Chalathara Puthenveedu Johnson (45) and Viji (45).

The body of the baby has been shifted to the Idukki Medical College Hospital (MCH). Following the incident, the mother reportedly suffered heavy bleeding and was rushed to the MCH. Her condition is reported to be stable.
The Idukki police said they have started inquest proceedings into the incident.

According to Perumkala ward member Ajeshkumar, the couple had not sought any medical care during Viji’s pregnancy. "They did not consult any doctors or avail of any antenatal services," he said.

Johnson, a pastor by profession, has little contact with neighbours, Ajeshkumar added. The couple has three other children, and it is alleged that Johnson also handled those deliveries.
