Thrissur: Anitha Baburaj, a former district committee member of the Democratic Mahila Association and who has continuously been a panchayat member for over a decade, danced to the spirited beats of percussion as a female puli (tiger) at the iconic pulikkali this year.

Besides Anitha, who is a native of Muttichoor, Saraswati Valappad, Thara (Thalikkulam), her daughter Karthika, Surabi (Pullazhi), Haritha (Guruvayoor), and Geetha (Kundukad) were the other female pulis that were part of the Patturakkal troupe.

Thara, Surabi and Geetha are seasoned pulis who have participated in pulikkali earlier too. Anitha, who contested as an LDF candidate, was a district panchayat member from 2010 to 2020.
