Kochi: In a major development in the ‘Manjummel Boys’ movie financial fraud case, a Special Investigation Team has been constituted to probe the complaint against actor Soubin Shahir, his father Babu Shahir and Shawn Antony. Soubin and the two others who produced ‘Manjummel Boys’ are accused of swindling ₹7 crore from Aroor native Siraj Valiyathura. 

DCP Vinod Pillai will lead the Special Investigation Team, reported Manorama News. The SIT was constituted after Siraj submitted a fresh complaint with the DGP. 

It was in April 2024, Maradu police booked Soubin and the co-producers of the movie over Siraj’s complaint. Siraj allegedly invested ₹7 crore in instalments for the film's production. When he did not get the promised profit, he filed a complaint, and the Maradu police registered a case as per the direction of the Ernakulam Magistrate court.

The case is registered under Sections 120B (Punishment for criminal conspiracy), 34 (common intention), 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 468 (forgery for cheating) of the Indian Penal Code. In June, the Kerala High Court granted anticipatory bail to the three accused in the case.

On Thursday, the Kerala High Court rejected the producers' plea seeking permission to travel abroad for attending an award ceremony.
