Honesty rewarded in Pattambi as a young man returns a bag of gold and cash to its rightful owners.

Pattambi: A young man proved that honesty is the biggest asset when he handed over a bag full of cash and gold at the nearest police station. Abdul Sabad (39), a native of Ongallur didn’t think twice before handing over the bag that contained gold ornaments worth more than 10 sovereigns, cash and a few documents at the Pattambi police station.

Meanwhile, Pattambi natives Bindu and Sujatha are happy and relieved that the bag has been found by Abdul Sabad. Bindu and Sujatha who are currently in Chennai will reach Pattambi police station today to claim their bag.

The bag had fallen on Pattambi Kalpaka street road while Bindu and Sujatha were travelling in an autorickshaw to Ottapalam railway station at 8 am on Tuesday. The passengers in the autorickshaw continued their journey to the railway station without realising that their bag had fallen on the road.

It came as a rude shock to the duo when they realised that they lost the bag. Bindu who is settled in Chennai and her sister Sujatha who lives in Jharkhand had come to Kerala to celebrate Onam and to attend a family wedding.

They hired an autorickshaw from Pattambi to Ottapalam railway station to board the train back. They, however, continued their journey after swiftly informing the Pattambi police about the missing bag. Besides, the news of the lost bag was already doing the rounds on social media.

Abdul Sabad, a scrap merchant noticed an abandoned bag on the roadside while he was riding a bike in Pattambi. He picked up the bag so that vehicles won’t run over it. He then tried to find the owner of the bag and return it. Meanwhile, he had also noticed the news of the lost bag on social media.

Sabad, Mujeeb and their friend M Rasakh handed over the bag containing gold and cash at the Pattambi police station the next morning itself. The police have already informed the owner, who is in Chennai.

Meanwhile, station inspector S Anshad appreciated Abdul Sabad for his act of kindness. The police will hand over the bag to the rightful owners at the police station in Abdul Sabad’s presence.
