Adimali: The authorities have not yet taken any action to shift the post-natal ward and the labour room from the unsafe building at Adimali Taluk Hospital. The health department had initiated procedures to move the ward from this building about a month ago. However, the work, intended to improve basic facilities, has been progressing at a snail’s pace.

Efforts to arrange facilities in the basement and first floor of the casualty block to shift the PP unit from the pay ward began nearly one and a half months ago. The rooms on the first floor of the pay ward are currently reserved for women.

Meanwhile, the PP unit has been functioning in four rooms in the basement. A ramp and staircase connect this section to the first floor. If a 5.5-metre ramp is built from here to the casualty block, patients could easily reach the first floor, which serves as the women’s ward.

The plan was to set up the labour room here, while the post-natal ward, newborn screening room and phototherapy unit would be arranged in the pay ward. Although the engineering wing of the block panchayat has prepared an estimate of ₹10 lakh for arranging the basic facilities, including the ramp, the project has been facing severe delays.
