Pala: The legacy of Kurien Chandy (Kuttappan) of Njavallil Andukunnel near Karoor and his wife Sisily will now stand tall through 25 homes being built for the underprivileged.
The Njavallil Andukunnel Kurien Chandy Memorial Infant Jesus Charitable Trust has completed the construction of 11 houses in the first phase of its housing project for the poor. The remaining 14 houses under the scheme will soon follow, bringing the total to 25 at Infant Jesus Nagar in Vydyashalappadi.
The Trust purchased three acres of land to launch this initiative, building homes fully equipped with modern facilities. The blessing and handing over of keys for the houses completed in the first phase will be led by Bishop Mar Joseph Kallarangatt on September 18 at 3 pm. On the same occasion, the foundation stone will also be laid for the office complex and the remaining houses under the second phase.
Several dignitaries, including Ministers V N Vasavan, M B Rajesh and Roshy Augustine, Opposition Leader V D Satheesan, MPs Francis George, Adoor Prakash and Jose K Mani, and Pala MLA Mani C Kappen, will take part in the function.
Draws inspiration from ‘The Pala Home’ project
According to the Trust’s office-bearers, the project drew inspiration from the Pala Home Project, a charitable housing initiative of the Pala Diocese under Bishop Mar Joseph Kallarangatt. The houses built by the Trust are being provided to deserving families identified irrespective of caste or creed.
Each house has been constructed at an approximate cost of ₹15 lakh. Beyond housing, the Trust has also committed to supporting the education of the beneficiaries’ children, said the office-bearers Mathew Alexander (Bobby), Sinlet Mathew, Alik Mathew, Felix Mathew, Chandi Kunju, and Bony Thomas.
