Chalakkudy: The lift in the building at the municipal town hall shopping complex hasn’t been working for more than three months. Meanwhile, the authorities have turned a blind eye to it, causing trouble to the public. The building houses many firms and establishments, including the taluk office, surveyor office, offices of lawyers and educational institutes.
One need to climb 66 steps to reach the taluk office that functions on the fourth floor of the building. Elderly persons and patients are struggling to climb these stairs as the lift doesn’t work.
A man who climbed all flights of stairs to the taluk office Thursday felt physical discomfort. Meanwhile, people who come from faraway places are forced to climb the stairs multiple times for various purposes. The authorities stated that the lift isn’t functioning mainly due to the leakage in the building.
Although the leakage has been closed, the lift still doesn’t work. The staircases often get slippery when the rainwater seeps during rainy season. Even though the lift has been constantly under repair since it was installed, this is the first time that it hasn’t worked for so long. A board was kept in front of it warning the visitors that the lift is under maintenance, but, that too cannot be found now.
