Pandalam: The brand-new bus stand here has become the latest point of contention between the LDF and the ruling BJP. The LDF has alleged that the BJP-led samiti is attempting to hurriedly inaugurate the bus stand before the forthcoming local body elections, despite the works remaining incomplete.

Parliamentary party leader Lasitha Nair and councillors S Arun and G Rajesh Kumar accused the ruling samiti of trying to deceive the public. They pointed out that the bus stand has yet to secure approvals from the RTI, the Water Authority, the Public Works Department and the KSEB. According to them, construction works are still incomplete.

The LDF further alleged that the ruling samiti had earlier promised to launch coracle boat rides in polluted water and had obtained quotations from a private agency with the intent of corruption.

They also dismissed the BJP’s claim that two lakh kilos of plastic waste had been collected and handed over to the authorities, terming it “unbelievable.” They accused the ruling samiti of corruption in allocating ₹20 lakh for the same.

In addition, the LDF pointed out that the toilet waste processing unit purchased for ₹48 lakh has ceased functioning. A complaint has been submitted to the vigilance authorities, urging an investigation into the alleged irregularities in the purchase.

Lasitha, Arun and Rajesh Kumar further alleged that the panchayat secretary continues to show apathy despite large-scale corruption. They accused the ruling samiti of deliberately delaying the minutes to facilitate malpractice. The LDF members also noted that an audit report had directed the samiti to repay ₹13 lakh spent on cleaning the stream, but the report has still not been tabled for discussion.
