Changanassery: Nair Service Society (NSS) General Secretary G Sukumaran Nair reiterated on Saturday that the organisation has already made its political stance clear and that there is no change in its policy of maintaining an equal distance from political fronts. “The NSS has stated its position very clearly earlier. We are ready to face any protests,” he told the media after addressing the NSS representatives’ meeting at the Pratinidhi Sabha Hall at the organisation’s headquarters.
His statement came amid growing protests against his recent remarks welcoming the LDF government’s stance on Sabarimala. He also cautioned that no one should attempt to exploit the issue for political gain. “Nobody needs to come to Perunna to raise this matter again,” he said.
On the criticism directed at him, Sukumaran Nair pointed out that the NSS is not confined to Thiruvananthapuram or Kanayannur but has 5,600 karayogams across the state. He also added that NSS had a policy of equidistance with all political parties. The NSS leader said that no other political parties approached the organisation for reconciliation.
“Congress and BJP leaders have not approached us. I have no response to the Pandalam Palace. Let people understand the situation, and the karayogams will make the necessary corrections,” he added.
Meanwhile, opposition leader V D Satheesan made it clear that the Congress would not attempt to placate the NSS. “Who told you efforts were being made? Our stand is a political decision. We don’t follow a policy of appeasement — that is the CPM’s approach. We will not encourage majoritarian or minority communalism,” he said.
In Erattupetta, banners demanding Sukumaran Nair’s resignation appeared near the Chennad Karayogam, accusing him of betraying devotees and serving Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The banners, put up in the name of ‘self-proud Ayyappa devotees of the Karayogams,’ were later removed by local office-bearers.
The representatives’ meeting also approved the NSS balance sheet as of March 31, 2025, along with the income and expenditure statement for the 2024–25 financial year.
The general secretary also announced plans to construct a new NSS headquarters with modern facilities. “We must adapt to the times. The new headquarters will uphold the dignity of the organisation,” he said, adding that construction would begin soon.
