Kochi: A 47-year-old Congress leader was found dead in a lodge in Ernakulam on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Jain P V, a resident of Vasanth Nagar, Kaloor, and former coordinator of the party’s district digital media cell.
The police said Jain was found hanging from a ceiling hook in a room at a lodge along Old Railway Station Road around 9 pm. Central police registered a case of unnatural death and, after conducting an autopsy, handed over the body to his family on Tuesday.
The police suspect suicide and confirmed that a suicide note was recovered from the room. “The exact reason for the death is not mentioned in the note. It is written that people have their own ways of facing life’s issues, but this is the only option he sees. It appears to be linked to mental stress,” a police officer said.
The note also contained instructions for his family regarding financial matters, including references to savings. He urged his children to focus on their studies and advised them to approach the Congress party office if they required any assistance, the officer added.
The police said no evidence has so far emerged to suggest that the death was politically connected, but all possibilities will be examined.
