Ottapalam: The maiden leisure trip organised by KSRTC’s budget tourism cell from the western side of the district was an occasion of fun, joy and laughter. 52 passengers, including children, became part of the trip via Ottapalam.

The group visited Illickalkallu and Ilaveezhapponchira in Kottayam district as well as the Malankara Dam in Idukki. The trip from Mannarkad depot via Sreekrishnapuram, Ambalapara, Ottapalam, Vaniyamkulam and Shoranur was organised catering to the demands of the passengers who are also travel enthusiasts.

The bus started at 4 am from Mannarkad and returned by midnight. Meanwhile, most of the passengers were from Kadambur, Ambalapara, Ottapalam, Ananganadi and Vaniyakulam areas. The group was led by Mannarkad budget tourism cell coordinator Sharafudeen, MC Krishnakumar and M Sajeev. All the seats in the bus were booked by travellers from Ottapalam region within two days after the trip was announced.

Currently, the budget tourism cell coordinates trips from Palakkad, Mannarkad and Chittoor depots and all these journeys are via Palakkad. Earlier, people from the western sides of the district had to reach Palakkad or Mannarakad depots to enjoy KSRTC’s budget tourism trips. This had been causing difficulties for travellers who wished to be part of such trips.
