Chettuva: The fisheries marine enforcement seized a boat that illegally captured 5000 kilos of young kora (silver croaker) fish, violating the fisheries laws. Sea Star, a boat owned by Chettuva Munakkakadavu Cheruvathoor Babu and the fish onboard was seized by the marine enforcement. Young fish that were less than 16 centimetres were found on the boat.

The fishermen onboard Sea Star had conducted unlawful fishing ignoring the authorities’ warnings. The marine enforcement, meanwhile, slapped a fine of ₹98,000 on the boat owner for violating the law. Besides, the fish were also released back into the sea. 

The boat was seized as part of the special combing operation done under the instruction of Azheekode fisheries station assistant director K P Gracy in the deep seas, estuaries and various harbours and fish landing centres in the district.

The patrolling team comprised of fisheries extension officer Reshma Nair, mechanic Krishnakumar, marine enforcement and vigilance wing officers V N Prashantkumar, E R Shinilkumar, V M Shaibu as well as sea rescue guards Shreyas, Vipin, Salim and driver Ashraf.
