Palakkad: The Additional District and Sessions Court-IV in Palakkad will pronounce on Saturday the sentence in the case involving Chenthamara (54), who was earlier found guilty of murdering Sajitha at Nenmara. On Tuesday, Additional District Judge Kenneth George convicted Chenthamara of killing Sajitha on August 31, 2019. The verdict came nearly six years after the brutal murder that shocked the region.
According to the prosecution, Chenthamara, harbouring a grudge against Sajitha whom he blamed for his marital separation, entered her house and hacked her to death. He later went on to kill Sajitha’s husband Sudhakaran and her mother Lakshmi while out on bail in the same case, bringing his total number of victims to three. During the trial, the prosecution examined 34 witnesses and produced 63 documents and material objects. Public Prosecutor M J Vijayakumar appeared for the state.
Following the conviction, Sajitha’s daughters, Athulya and Akhila, said they were relieved by the verdict and hoped the court would award the death sentence. Chenthamara will be produced before the court today for sentencing.
