Vadakara: Clearing the huge hill of waste deposited by the Harithakarma Sena in the vicinity of the new bus stand may be more challenging than expected. This waste had caused panic among people the other day when smoke billed from it.
The waste got dumped outside the shed after the municipality failed to clear the bills of the private company that had been roped in to remove the waste. Although the municipality has been trying to clear the waste after smoke was detected, it would take days to remove them completely. Besides, the waste removal would get stalled again if the payment isn’t cleared immediately.
A major mishap was averted as the fire force rushed to the spot to douse the smoke that billed when the waste materials got heated up. The company then agreed to remove the waste following the fire brigade’s instruction. Although four loads of waste was removed yesterday, heaps of waste still remain both inside and outside the shed.
Meanwhile, the MRF centre and the nearby areas are under threat as a major fire could break out even from a carelessly thrown cigarette butt. Such sparks could even reach the interiors of the shed. The fire force has instructed the municipality to separate the waste and store them at specific distance to avoid any mishaps or unfortunate incidents.
