Koipuram: To honour the memory of her late husband, Komattu K. C. Philip, Mary Philip, a former teacher and Non-Resident Indian (NRI), has donated land for the construction of an anganwadi in her native village. She contributed five cents of land for the project with the consent of her children.
Mary made this generous donation after local ward member Sindhu Lakshmi approached her, seeking land to establish a permanent facility for the anganwadi in Ward 6 of the panchayat. Moved by the initiative, Mary quickly agreed to donate her property for the cause.
Panchayat Secretary Muhammad Shaji formally received the land documents from Mary Philip in the presence of the ward member. Panchayat members Ann Maniyatt and Anila Kumari were also present at the occasion.
Out of the 27 anganwadis functioning under the Koipuram Panchayat, only six currently operate from their own buildings. The lack of available land has been the primary obstacle to setting up independent facilities.
