Thiruvananthapuram: Thirty-five people, including children, were hospitalised with symptoms of food poisoning after consuming red snapper fish, locally known as chembally, at Neyyattinkara on Thursday.
The fish, purchased from markets in coastal areas such as Kanhiramkulam, Oorambu, Chamavila and Kuruvadu, reportedly caused the food poisoning.
The patients complained of vomiting and diarrhoea after eating the fish. They are currently admitted to various hospitals, including Dr Somervell Memorial CSI Medical College Hospital at Karakonam and Neyyattinkara Taluk Hospital.
According to health officials, none of the patients is in critical condition. The Food Safety Department has launched an investigation into the incident.
