Edathua: A patient had to be carried on a stretcher by local residents to the main road after access to Thundiyil, located north of Choottumali School in the 12th ward, was cut off.
The motorable path, which had been in use for more than 50 years, was recently blocked and replaced with a narrow three-foot-wide walkway running along a paddy field. Since the path lies over an outer bund, it is too narrow and unstable even for two-wheelers.

On Thursday, 70-year-old Kunjumol, who sustained injuries in a fall at her home, had to be carried by neighbours on a stretcher to reach the road before being taken to the hospital.
Residents have submitted multiple complaints to the District Collector, Revenue Divisional Officer, and the local panchayat, seeking reconstruction and restoration of the original motorable path. However, their appeals have gone unanswered.

They said a deposit had already been made with the Revenue Department after officials pointed out that the landowner needed to measure the property. Once the survey is completed, the residents believe the excess land could be reclaimed and converted back into a usable road.
