Thrissur: Just hours after a drunk passenger pushed a 19-year-old woman off the Kerala Express, critically injuring her, another intoxicated passenger attempted to jump out of a moving train in Thrissur on Sunday— while holding on to a travelling ticket examiner (TTE).

The official, who narrowly escaped being dragged out, has been identified as A Sanoop, a squad inspector based in Ernakulam. The accused, Nitin (37), a native of Kanjirappuzha in Palakkad, was taken into custody by the Railway Protection Force (RPF). The inspector suffered an injury to his right hand during the scuffle.

The incident occurred around 10.30 pm on Sunday aboard the Gurudev Superfast Express, which runs from Thiruvananthapuram to Shalimar. The TTE noticed the man, visibly drunk, creating a disturbance inside one of the reserved coaches as the train passed Irinjalakkuda station.

When the TTE checked his ticket, he found that the man held only a general ticket and asked him to move to the general coach. Instead, the passenger suddenly grabbed the inspector’s hand, saying “Let’s go right away,” and tried to leap out of the moving train.

The inspector managed to cling to a nearby hook, preventing both from falling out. Passengers and pantry car staff rushed to help, pulling the duo back into the coach.

The incident comes after a similar case on the Kerala Express, where Suresh (48) of Panachamoodu, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, attacked two women travelling from Aluva to Thiruvananthapuram. He reportedly kicked Sreekutty (19) off the moving train near Varkala, leaving her critically injured, before attempting to push her friend Archana, who managed to escape.
