Pathanamthitta: Ajin Reji Mathew, who set ablaze a 19-year-old Kavitha in 2020, was sentenced to life imprisonment on Thursday. The Additional District Court (I) also slapped a fine of ₹5 lakh on the 24-year-old.

Ajin, who claimed to be her lover, stabbed the girl, poured petrol and set her ablaze after she rejected his proposal. The accused was the girl's classmate in Class XII.

While under treatment, for the burn injuries, Kavitha had told police that the youth professed his love for her, but she had spurned his proposal.
