Thrissur: The Left Democratic Front (LDF) has announced its candidates for the Thrissur Corporation and the District Panchayat. District secretary K V Abdul Khader said the front would make full use of the unrest within the Congress that emerged soon after its candidate list was released.
Of the 56 divisions in the Thrissur Corporation, CPM will contest in 38, CPI in eight, RJD in three, Kerala Congress (Mani) and JD(S) in two seats each, while NCP and Congress (S) will contest one seat each.
For the District Panchayat, CPI(M) will contest 18 seats, CPI eight, while RJD, INL, Kerala Congress and NCP will contest one seat each.

Following the Congress candidate announcement, DCC general secretary Ravi Jose Thanikkal resigned from all party posts. George Chandy and Shomy Francis have entered the fray as rebel candidates. Councillor Nimmi Rappai had earlier resigned and joined the LDF.
