What began as a routine delimitation exercise in Naduvil grama panchayat has quickly descended into brazen gerrymandering -- allegedly steered by the LDF from the shadows, with government officials executing it on the ground.
Police personnel belonging to the state special branch have received instructions from their higher-ups to report on the issues affecting each ward.
The ruling LDF has won 15 out of 30 wards in the latest round of local body bypolls, while the opposition Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) secured 12.
In Grama Panchayats, wards are constituted at a ratio of one for every 1000 people.
The UDF won 10 seats, the LDF won 10 seats and the NDA won 3 seats.
Lone seat in Palakkad comes as a consolation.
The bypolls were held in the wards in cities, seven towns and villages in 12 districts, excluding Wayanad and Kasaragod, on Tuesday.
